The shorter available lengths make it practical for smaller applications like a single closet, cabinet toe kick, or short hallway run rather than a full staircase. The diode spacing gives an even glow along the strip rather than visible individual points of light. Because it is motion activated, it works well in spaces people pass through briefly, like a pantry or under cabinet area, where leaving a light switched on constantly would be wasteful. It suits smaller indoor accent lighting projects more than large outdoor installations.
