Choosing a Tray for the Job
- Size to the surface: On a coffee table, a tray covering about a third to a half of the top looks anchored without crowding. On a dresser, leave a few inches of margin on every side.
- Pick material by room: Marble and silicone shrug off water on a bathroom counter, acacia and bamboo are made for serving, and small ceramic dishes keep rings from rolling off a nightstand.
- Check the edge: A raised rim stops bottles and candles from sliding, and handles make a tray easy to carry from kitchen to patio.
- Care for wood: Hand wash wooden trays, dry them right away and never soak them. Rub in a little food safe mineral oil now and then to keep the grain from drying out.
Styling tip: Put a shallow tray on the entry table and make it the only place keys, sunglasses and mail can land. The rest of the surface stays clear, and you always know where the keys are.

Our serving trays and platters in acacia, walnut and bamboo are meant for bread, cheese, fruit and snacks. Wash them by hand with mild soap, dry them immediately and keep them out of the dishwasher, which can warp and crack wood.
