About Linear Wall Sconces

Slim Linear Sconces With a Clean Modern Edge

Linear sconces are long, narrow bars of light, mounted vertically to add height or horizontally to stretch a wall. Their slim profile suits modern interiors, tight hallways and stairwells where a bulky shade would get in the way. Our range includes ultra thin aluminum strips in black and gold, double vertical bars, rotatable skyline bars you can angle, a curved dimmable strip, a black and copper bathroom bar and long line lights offered in several lengths. Most use integrated LEDs, and many offer warm or cool light plus step dimming. They also suit minimalist furniture, where a single line of light echoes the clean edges of shelving, headboards and mirror frames.

Planning linear light on a wall

  • Vertical or horizontal: Vertical bars beside a mirror or doorway emphasize height. Horizontal bars over a headboard, desk or artwork widen a space.
  • Length to what it frames: Over a bed or console, a bar somewhere around half to two thirds of the furniture's width looks proportionate.
  • Glare control: Frosted diffusers keep the LED line smooth. If the bar sits at eye level in a hallway, choose a softer diffuser or warmer light. Warm white near 3000K is kinder at night in bedrooms.
  • Wiring position: Hardwired bars need the junction box at the bar's center point, so mark it on the wall before the electrician arrives.

Styling tip: In a narrow bathroom, a pair of vertical bars on either side of the mirror lights the face evenly and takes up almost no wall space.

For the bathroom, see vanity lights. For more slim designs, browse LED wall sconces.

Common Questions About Linear Wall Sconces

Many can, and some rotate so you can set the angle after mounting. Check the listing, because a few vertical designs are made to hang in one orientation only.

They are a strong choice, especially mounted vertically on each side of a mirror to reduce shadows on the face. Choose a model suited to damp locations and a neutral white light for true color.

Several designs come in multiple lengths, listed in the options menu. Pick a length that fits the wall or furniture it frames, leaving a little space at each end.
