Ceiling Fans

A ceiling fan with a light pulls double duty: it moves air on warm nights and replaces the main overhead fixture, all from one box in the ceiling. Our range goes well beyond builder grade blades. There are bladeless and invisible blade designs that look like a flush mount until they spin, low profile fans for shorter rooms, natural wood and palm frond blades, and larger DC motor models for living areas. Most include an LED light and a remote, which suits bedrooms where getting up to pull a chain is the last thing you want.

Picking a fan that fits

• Blade span to room size: A rough guide is 36 inches or less for small rooms up to about 75 square feet, 42 to 48 inches for typical bedrooms, and 52 inches or more for living rooms of about 225 square feet and up.
• Ceiling height: Keep blades at least 7 feet above the floor. On ceilings under about 8 feet, choose a low profile or flush mount fan.
• Motor type: DC motors tend to run quieter and offer more speed settings, which matters most where people sleep.
• Mounting box: A fan must hang from an electrical box rated for fan support, not a standard light box. A licensed electrician can confirm or replace it.

Placement tip: Center the fan over the middle of the room or over the bed rather than above a doorway path. Air moves most evenly from the center, and the light falls where you actually sit.
