Matching the Holder to the Candle
- Check the fit: Taper holders are sized for a standard base, but candles vary a little. If a taper wobbles, a small dab of candle adhesive or a wrap of foil at the base steadies it.
- Shield from drafts: Hurricanes, lanterns and tall glass cylinders protect the flame from air vents and open windows, so the candle burns more evenly and drips less.
- Mind the heat: Set holders on a heat resistant surface, keep about 3 inches between burning candles and never leave a flame unattended.
- Care for jar candles: Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before lighting, and on the first burn let the melted wax reach the edge of the jar.
