Floor Lamps That Fill the Room From the Ground Up
A floor lamp is the easiest way to add light where there is no table and no ceiling fixture to lean on. It can stand beside a reading chair, arch over a sofa, glow in an empty corner or frame a doorway. Our floor lamps include swing arm and arc lamps, tripods, torchieres that bounce light off the ceiling, drum shade and walnut designs, sculptural columns, paper lanterns, color changing corner lamps and decorative light sets made for weddings and events. Many are offered in sets of two or more for matching pairs.
Choosing a Floor Lamp
- Light direction: Uplights and torchieres wash the ceiling for general glow. Adjustable heads and arcs aim light down onto a lap or a coffee table. Corner lamps and columns are mostly about atmosphere.
- Height and reach: A standard floor lamp works best when its shade sits just below eye level for someone seated nearby. An arc lamp needs clear space to swing over the furniture it serves.
- Base: Heavier bases, such as marble, keep tall and arching lamps steady. In homes with pets or small children, stability matters more than a slim silhouette.
- Color temperature: Several of our lamps offer three step dimming between warm, neutral and cool white, so one lamp can serve a lazy evening and a paperwork session.
Placement tip: Tuck a floor lamp slightly behind and to the side of a chair rather than directly next to it. Light then falls over your shoulder onto a book instead of into your eyes.

Common Questions About Floor Lamps
Put one where a seat has no other light source, often the end of a sofa or beside an armchair. A second lamp in a dark corner balances the room. Run cords along the wall rather than across a walkway or under a rug.
For general room light, a torchiere or uplight makes the biggest difference because it bounces light off the ceiling. For reading, focus matters more than raw output, so choose a lamp with an adjustable head. A dimmable model lets you have both.
Yes. The olive branch, cotton tree and stage floor light sets are designed for receptions and events and come in two heights. Choose warm white for a candlelit feel or cooler white for a crisp, modern look.
