Outdoor Lanterns
About Outdoor Lanterns
Lantern Light for Porches, Tables and Garden Hooks
A lantern brings the glow of a candle outside without the flame. Set one by the front door, hang a row from a pergola beam or cluster a few on the patio table and the space feels welcoming the moment the sun sets. Our lanterns range from steel and glass designs with carry handles to woven rattan pendants, striped glass cylinders, standing floor lanterns, mason jar and watering can fairy lights, flickering flame styles, a rice paper lamp and rugged camping lanterns. Because most run on solar power, you can move them around the yard as the seasons change without worrying about cords.
Finding the Right Lantern
- Where it lives: Tabletop and floor lanterns suit porches and patios, hanging styles belong on hooks and branches, and camping models travel.
- Power: Most of our lanterns charge from a small solar panel. Some also offer a battery, USB charging or a hardwired version for a permanent spot.
- Glow: Clear glass shows off the light source, frosted or striped glass softens it, and rattan throws a patterned shadow on nearby walls. Warm white light suits almost every lantern style.
- Size: Several designs come in two or three heights. A mix of sizes grouped together looks more natural than a matched row.
Placement tip: Place two floor lanterns of different heights beside your front steps. They frame the entry, light the first tread and can move to the patio when you host dinner outside.
If you want a lantern you can pick up and carry, see portable lanterns. Heading out for the weekend? Our camping lanterns are made for the trip.
Common Questions About Outdoor Lanterns
They can glow indoors for an evening, but they need to go back into direct sun to recharge. Models with USB charging are a better fit if you want to move a lantern between the house and the garden.
Use an S hook or a short length of chain over a sturdy branch, keeping the lantern clear of foliage so the panel gets sun. Hang them at different heights for a relaxed, layered look.
Our rattan lanterns are sold for outdoor use, but woven textures last longer when they are sheltered. A covered porch or pergola is ideal, and bringing them in for winter keeps them looking fresh.
