The woven bands make the light pattern. The bulb shines through the clear glass and between the bands, so the wall around the lantern picks up a soft web of light and shadow rather than a flat glow.

• Mount pairs at the same height, with the globe roughly at eye level.
• Check that the lantern clears any door or screen that swings open beside it, and plan the wiring with an electrician.
