- Catch the ash: Look for a tray, dish or catcher wide enough to hold falling ash. A removable catcher makes cleanup quick.
- Material: Ceramic and cast iron handle heat well and wipe clean easily. Resin captures fine sculpted detail, and wooden trays suit sage and palo santo.
- Oil burners: Tealight burners warm a dish of water with a few drops of oil. Add more water before it evaporates so the oil never scorches.
