About Camping Lanterns

Pack Light for Tents, Trails and Power Outages

A good camping lantern earns its spot in the bag on the first night. It lights the tent while you unroll sleeping bags, hangs over the picnic table for dinner and guides a sleepy walk to the restroom at midnight. Back home, the same lantern waits in the drawer for the next power outage. Our camping range includes USB C rechargeable lanterns, magnetic lanterns in khaki, black and green, a retro style lantern set with a storage bag, a lantern with a built in searchlight, a solar leaf lantern and a solar string light with a hook.

Choosing for the Campsite

  • Rechargeable or solar: USB rechargeable lanterns charge from a car, power bank or wall outlet. Solar models refill during the day at camp, which is useful on longer trips.
  • Hanging options: Look for a folding hook or loop to hang from a tent ceiling, and a magnet for the side of a vehicle or metal table.
  • Warm and white modes: Warm light is gentler inside a tent at night, while white light is better for cooking and finding things in a pack.
  • Pack friendly: Choose a compact camping model over a decorative glass lantern for anything that will bounce around in a pack or car trunk.

Placement tip: Hang the lantern from the peak of the tent rather than setting it on the floor. Light spreads evenly across the whole space and nobody kicks it over in the dark.

Want something that also works on the porch? See portable lanterns, or add a strand of outdoor string lights around the campsite.

Common Questions About Camping Lanterns

They do different jobs. A headlamp lights wherever you look, while a lantern lights the whole tent or table for everyone. Many campers bring one of each.

Charge it partway, switch it off and store it somewhere cool and dry. Top it up every few months so the battery is not left empty for long stretches.

Absolutely. It doubles as emergency light during an outage, a work light in the garage and a soft glow for a backyard fire pit night.
