About Floating Shelves

Clean Lines, Hidden Hardware, More Room to Breathe

Floating shelves give a wall storage without the visual weight of brackets or a bulky cabinet. They suit small rooms, bathrooms and any spot where a bookcase would feel like too much. Our range includes solid wood floating shelves and bookshelves, a shelf with a concealed storage compartment, boho arch and three tier arch shelves, a gothic fence shelf, a leaf macrame shelf, stainless steel, matte black and wood and aluminum bathroom shelves, a no drill acrylic shelf, acrylic ladder and riser displays, and an under shelf wire basket that adds a second level.

Choosing and Installing Floating Shelves

  • Hidden mounts need solid backing: Because the bracket hides inside the shelf, the wall does all the work. Screw into studs whenever possible, especially for longer shelves.
  • Load smart: Place heavier items close to the wall and above the mounting points, with lighter decor near the front edge.
  • Pick the length: A shelf around 16 to 24 inches suits a bathroom or a nook, while longer runs work over a desk or sofa. On a big wall, a set of two or three reads better than one short shelf.
  • Finish for the room: Wood and macrame shelves warm a bedroom or living room, while stainless steel, aluminum and acrylic stand up to bathroom humidity.

Placement tip: Over a toilet, hang the lowest shelf at least a foot above the tank lid so you can still lift it, then space a second shelf about a foot higher for towels and a small plant.

Need to use an awkward angle too? See our corner shelves.

Common Questions About Floating Shelves

It depends on the shelf, its hardware and the wall behind it. Check the listing, mount into studs for books and dishes, and keep the heaviest items near the wall. Drywall anchors alone suit lighter decor.

Hold the mounting bracket against the wall, set a level on top, and mark the holes before drilling. Tighten the screws, check level again, then slide the shelf over the bracket.

Mix a few practical things with a few decorative ones: a stack of books, a small plant, a framed photo and a jar or two. Leave space between groups so the shelf still looks light.
