Choosing Your Fragrance Style
- Diffusers: Flameless and easy to leave running while you work. Choose a tank size to suit the room, and check the listing for an automatic shutoff when the water runs out.
- Incense: A traditional ritual with a stronger scent. Backflow burners need special backflow cones, and every burner needs a heat resistant surface.
- Candles: A warm, visible flame and a slow build of scent. Trim the wick before each burn and keep the jar on a stable, level surface.
- Oil burners: A tealight warms a dish of water and oil from below. Top up the water so the dish never runs dry.
Safety note: Never leave a burning candle, incense or oil burner unattended, and keep all of them away from curtains, children and pets. Keep diffusers off wood finishes and away from electronics, and follow each product's instructions.
Styling tip: Give scent a home base, such as a tray on the entry console holding a diffuser, a small plant and a dish for keys. It becomes a small welcome every time you walk in.

Use oils intended for diffusers and follow the maker's guidance on how many drops to add. Thick or resinous oils can clog some units, so rinse the tank regularly. Waterless diffusers are designed to run on pure oil, so check which type you have first.
Keep them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, which can fade wax and dull scent. Replace candle lids between burns to keep dust off the surface. Store incense in its packaging or a closed box so it holds its fragrance longer.
