About Floor Cushions
Floor Cushions for Lounging Low and Sitting Comfortably
Floor cushions invite people to sit down, stretch out and stay a while. They make a living room feel casual, turn a reading nook into a place you actually use, give kids their own seats at playtime, and offer a steady base for meditation or stretching. Our floor cushions include tufted meditation cushions, thick biscuit and corduroy squares, velvet and pleated pumpkin cushions, bohemian and mandala prints, woven straw tatami pads, a quarter round chenille cushion, playful kids' designs, and chair pads in leather, memory foam and latex.
How to Choose
- Size: Around 16 inches across suits a single perch or a child. Cushions near 20 to 24 inches give room to sit cross legged or lean back against a sofa.
- Fill and firmness: Deep tufting keeps filling from shifting, latex springs back quickly, and memory foam molds to you on a hard chair. Softer, looser fills suit lounging more than upright sitting.
- Cover or complete cushion: Some velvet tatami and Moroccan leather pieces are sold as covers only, so you can fill them to your preferred firmness. Check each listing to see whether an insert is included.
- Care: Zippered and removable covers can be washed following the care label. Leather pads wipe clean, and straw cushions should be kept dry and aired out.
Styling tip: Stack three floor cushions in graduated colors beside a low bookcase. Stacked, they look like a soft sculpture; spread out, they seat three people for a movie.
Need a little more height? Browse poufs and ottomans, and add a throw blanket for chilly nights.
Common Questions About Floor Cushions
For one adult sitting upright, a cushion around 16 to 18 inches across works well. If you like to sit cross legged or lounge, look at 20 inch and larger sizes. For kids, smaller round cushions are easier to move around.
Fluff and turn it regularly so the filling is not always compressed in the same spot. Tufted designs hold their shape better, and fillable covers can be topped up when they start to sag. Let cushions air out in a dry room after heavy use.
A firm, thick cushion raises your hips slightly above your knees, which many people find comfortable when sitting cross legged. Our tufted meditation cushions are made with that in mind. Choose a height that lets your knees rest lower than your hips without strain.
Many have a zipper so the cover comes off, and the product page says which. Follow the care notes, wash covers inside out on a gentle cycle, and air dry so the fabric keeps its shape.
