Bubble Glass Jar Lantern, Black Aluminum Gooseneck Porch Light Price$264.99

Why you'll love it

Farmhouse warmth at the front door

This lantern brings the feel of an old porch light to a front door. A clear glass jar full of tiny bubbles hangs from a curled black arm under a wide brim, and the bubbles catch the glow of the bulb and sparkle softly. The brim sends the light down onto the step and the door.

It comes in one size, in matte black, with a replaceable screw base LED bulb in warm white. The round backplate mounts to a standard junction box. It is rated for splashing water, so a covered porch or a sheltered entry is the best home for it.

The Nora Furnish guide

What Makes the Bubble Glass Jar Lantern, Black Aluminum Gooseneck Porch Light Such a Good Porch Light

Some porch lights simply light a door. The best ones also set a mood, telling guests before they knock that this is a warm, welcoming house. A classic lantern with glass that catches the light is one of the simplest ways to do that.

The Bubble Glass Jar Lantern hangs a clear seeded glass jar from a curled black aluminum arm, under a wide brimmed cap. It uses one replaceable E27 LED bulb, rated 8W and about 640 lumens in warm white 3000K. It stands 16.5 inches tall, projects 10.2 inches from the wall, and has a 9.1 inch wide shade and a round backplate 5.1 inches tall. It is hardwired, 110V to 220V, and rated IP54.

What makes the jar lantern stand out

The bubble glass is what people remember. Tiny air bubbles in the clear jar catch the light of the bulb and scatter small sparkles, so the lantern looks alive and warm rather than flat.

The wide brim is practical. It shades the top of the jar and pushes the light down, onto the step, the lock and the doormat, where it is actually useful.

The curled gooseneck arm gives it charm. It is a familiar farmhouse and barn light shape, simple enough to suit modern farmhouse and cottage homes alike.

The replaceable bulb keeps it flexible. It takes a standard E27 screw base LED bulb, so it is easy to replace down the line.

Matte black aluminum stays understated in daylight and looks good against white siding, brick and painted shutters.

The light itself is easy to live with. Warm white 3000K is the color of an old incandescent porch bulb, soft on the eyes and kind to brick, painted wood and planting, and at about 640 lumens it lights the step and the door without spilling far into the yard or the street.

Where it looks best, around the house

  • Beside the front door. A warm, sparkling welcome at eye level.
  • Covered porches. Sheltered from rain, the lantern shows at its best.
  • Back and side doors. A single lantern makes a secondary entry feel cared for.
  • Garage side doors. Light on the step and the handle.
  • Under an eave on a patio. A cozy glow beside outdoor seating.

It suits farmhouse, cottage, coastal and classic homes, and it softens a plain modern facade with a touch of character.

Choosing the finish and placement

It comes in one size and one finish, matte black. At 16.5 inches tall it suits a standard single door, and a pair either side of the door looks balanced on a wider entry.

Because it is rated IP54, choose a spot under a porch roof, an eave or another cover, where rain does not hit it directly.

A few guidelines help:

  • A lantern roughly a quarter to a third of the door height looks balanced.
  • Mount the center around eye level beside the door.
  • Keep a pair at the same height on either side.
  • Plan the wiring with an electrician before the wall is finished or clad.

All required mounting hardware and instructions are included, and the round backplate mounts to a standard outdoor junction box.

Layering it with other lighting

A porch lantern is the welcome layer of outdoor lighting. Pair it with low path lights along the walk so guests reach the door without a dark gap, and look through the outdoor lanterns collection for matching lanterns at the garage or gate.

Keep the light warm across the front of the house. A warm white porch lantern, warm path lights and warm windows make the whole front read as one welcoming scene.

Echo the black finish elsewhere. Black house numbers, a black door handle or black gutters tie the lantern into the facade.

Looking after it is easy. Switch it off and let it cool, wipe the aluminum with a soft, dry cloth and dry it fully, and clean the glass jar with glass cleaner on the cloth, never sprayed on the fixture.

Is the jar lantern right for your space?

This light is a strong fit if you:

  • Want a classic farmhouse lantern with sparkling bubble glass.
  • Have a covered porch, eave or sheltered entry.
  • Like a replaceable screw base bulb.
  • Want matte black that suits white siding and brick.

It may not suit a fully exposed wall that takes driving rain, or a sleek modern facade that calls for a linear light.

Frequently asked questions

How big is it?

It is 16.5 inches tall and projects 10.2 inches from the wall, with a 9.1 inch shade and a 5.1 inch tall backplate.

What is it made of?

Aluminum in matte black with a clear seeded glass jar.

What light does it give?

The rated E27 LED bulb is 8W and about 640 lumens in warm white 3000K. It is not dimmable.

Why is there a brim on top?

The wide brim shades the jar and pushes the light down onto the step and the door, where it is most useful.

How is it powered?

It is hardwired on 110V to 220V to a standard junction box, installed by a licensed electrician.

Should I use one or two?

Does it need to be covered?

It is rated IP54 for splashing water and dust, so a porch roof or eave above it is the best spot.

Will it suit a back door?

Yes. A single lantern makes a back or side door feel as welcoming as the front.

How do I clean the glass?

Switch it off and let it cool, then use glass cleaner on a soft cloth, never sprayed on the fixture.
