Most bookends only work when the shelf is full. This one expands with the books, so four paperbacks stand as straight as twenty, and it collapses back down when you clear the desk. The moulded tray and pen cup on the side mean the pens stop rolling off. It is metal through the frame, so it does not flex when it is loaded.
