The LED Deck and Step Light is a small recessed light made for exactly that. The LED is built in. The 3W version comes with a 1.65 or 2 inch face, and the 5W version with a 2.4 inch face, each with a flat face or one to four side openings. Choose warm white, cold white, natural white, green or blue on household voltage from 85V to 265V, or warm white, cold white, natural white or green on 12V DC. The listing describes an IP67 rating.

What makes the step light stand out

It sits flush. The light is designed to be recessed into a deck riser, a step face, a garden wall or a stair wall, with the face level with the surface. There is nothing to kick or trip over, and nothing to catch a lawn mower or a broom.

The side options shape the light. A flat face throws light straight out, which suits a wall or a marker. The one to four side versions cast light sideways, and those are the ones to use on a step face, because they wash light across the tread instead of glaring at eye level.

You can tune the brightness. Choose 3W for a subtle marker on a step edge, or 5W for more light across a wider deck board or a path.

It is sealed for outdoor use. The light is sealed against water, which is why it can go into a deck riser or a garden wall rather than sitting on the surface under cover.

Voltage is your choice. AC versions run on household voltage, while DC12V versions run on low voltage, which many people prefer for wet outdoor areas. A transformer is needed for the DC12V versions and is not included.

Where it works best

• Deck steps. Side emitting lights in each riser.
• Garden stairs. Set into stone or timber step faces.
• Deck edges. Marking the perimeter of a raised deck.
• Garden walls. Flat face lights along a low wall.
• Indoor stairs. Recessed into a stair wall beside the treads.

The small, minimal face keeps the fixture from competing with landscaping. Warm white suits timber decks and stone, cold white suits concrete and modern designs, and green or blue add a colorful accent around a pool or a garden feature.

Choosing the size and placement

The 3W versions have a 1.65 or 2 inch face diameter, and the 5W versions have a 2.4 inch face diameter. The number of light openings, from flat to four side, is set by the option you choose.

• Step faces. Use a side emitting version so light falls across the tread.
• Walls. A flat face works well on a garden or stair wall.
• Spacing. Place one light per step, centered or to one side, for a steady rhythm.
• Brightness. 3W marks an edge; 5W lights a wider area.
• Flush fit. Cut or drill the recess, run the cable and seat the fixture so the face sits flush.

Check the voltage before ordering. The AC versions connect to household voltage, and the DC12V versions need a separate low voltage transformer that is not included. Have an electrician plan and connect the wiring with the power off.
