Why you'll love it

Quiet texture beside the front door

A small concrete block on a pale wall has a quiet, gallery like presence, and at night it draws neat beams of warm light across the facade. The short block pools light down onto the step and the lock, while the taller block sends one beam up and one down, framing a door or marking a column with two soft fans of light.

Choose a rectangular block or a round fronted one, in gray black or light concrete gray, in a short or tall size. Every version runs on a warm white LED behind a glass lens, is hardwired and mounts flat over a standard junction box.

The Nora Furnish guide

What Makes the Cubist Porch Light, Gray Concrete and Glass Outdoor Wall Sconce Such a Good Porch Light

An entrance does not always need a big lantern. On a modern house, the best porch lights are often the smallest ones, simple forms that sit close to the wall and let the architecture speak, while putting light exactly where it is needed: on the step, the lock and the house number.

The Cubist Porch Light is a compact block of cast concrete with a glass lens over a warm white 3000K LED, rated 3.7W and 370 lumens with a CRI of 80. It measures 3.2 inches wide and 3.2 inches deep, in a short version 2 inches tall that lights downward or a tall version 5.9 inches tall that lights up and down. Choose a rectangular block or a round fronted shape, in gray black or light concrete gray. It is hardwired for 110V to 220V and rated IP55 for outdoor use.

What makes the Cubist porch light stand out

The material is the first thing people notice. Cast concrete has a fine speckled texture that no painted metal can copy, and it sits naturally on stucco, brick, board formed concrete and stone. Each piece has its own speckle, so no two look exactly alike.

The light pattern is clean and graphic. The short block sends a single fan of light down the wall, while the tall block adds a second beam upward, drawing two soft cones on the facade. A pair either side of a door creates a symmetrical, architectural look.

The size keeps it discreet. At a little over three inches wide, it all but disappears into the wall by day and leaves the focus on the door, the cladding and the planting. It is ideal where a larger fixture would crowd the entrance.

The two shapes and two tones let you tune the look. The rectangular block feels crisp and modern, while the round fronted version is softer. Gray black gives a stronger contrast on pale walls, and light concrete gray blends into light render.

The integrated LED means there is no bulb to change, and the glass lens keeps the light source neat and protected.

Where it looks best, around the house

  • Beside the front door. A pair of tall blocks frames the entrance with up and down beams.
  • Porch and entry steps. A short block lights the step and the lock without glare.
  • Garage walls. Blocks spaced along the wall give a steady line of light.
  • Courtyards and patios. Small blocks add low, calm light around seating.
  • Columns and pillars. The tall version marks a column with light above and below.

It suits modern, minimalist and industrial homes, and the natural concrete also works well with Japanese inspired and Scandinavian styles.

Choosing the size and placement

Both sizes are 3.2 inches wide and 3.2 inches deep. The 3.2" x 2" version is 2 inches tall and lights downward, and the 3.2" x 5.9" version is 5.9 inches tall and lights up and down. Each weighs about 6.6 lb.

A few guidelines help:

  • Use the short version where you want light on the ground, such as steps and entry mats.
  • Use the tall version to wash the wall and frame a door or column.
  • Mount pairs at the same height on either side of the door, a little above eye level for a standard door.
  • It is hardwired, so plan the wiring with an electrician before the wall is finished.

All required mounting hardware and instructions are included.

Layering it with other lighting

Small wall blocks are the accent layer of an outdoor scheme. Combine them with path lights along the walk so the route to the door is lit, or explore the outdoor up and down wall lights collection for larger up and down fixtures on the same facade.

Keep the color temperature the same. The blocks glow at a warm 3000K, and matching the rest of the exterior lights to it makes the house read as one calm scene.

Repeat the form around the house. A line of identical blocks along a garage or garden wall has more impact than mixed fixtures, and it gives a modern facade a sense of order.

Caring for concrete is easy. Switch the light off and let it cool, then dust the concrete with a soft brush and wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners, which can stain it, and clean the glass lens with glass cleaner on the cloth, never sprayed on the fixture.

Is the Cubist porch light right for your space?

This light is a strong fit if you:

  • Want a compact, modern porch light with real material texture.
  • Prefer light aimed at the step and the wall rather than into the eyes.
  • Like the choice of a downlight or an up and down light.
  • Want a finish in gray black or light concrete gray.

It may not suit a traditional entrance that calls for a classic lantern, a space that needs bright floodlight coverage, or a home without a way to hardwire exterior fixtures.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes are available?

Two sizes, both 3.2 inches wide and 3.2 inches deep: 3.2" x 2", which is 2 inches tall, and 3.2" x 5.9", which is 5.9 inches tall.

What is it made of?

The body is cast concrete with a glass lens. Every piece has its own speckle, so slight variation in color and texture between units is normal.

What light does it give?

A warm white 3000K LED rated 3.7W and 370 lumens with a CRI of 80. The LED is built in, so there is no bulb to change.

Which version lights up and down?

The taller 3.2" x 5.9" version sends light both up and down the wall. The short 3.2" x 2" version lights downward only.

What power does it need?

It is hardwired for 110V to 220V and mounts flat over a standard junction box.

What shapes and colors are there?

Choose a rectangular block or a round fronted shape, in Gray Black or Light Concrete Gray.

Is one light enough, or two?

A pair, one on each side of the door, gives a balanced, architectural look. A single short block by the lock side works where wall space is tight.

Will it suit a garage?

Yes. Blocks spaced evenly along a garage wall give a neat line of light over the drive and the doors.

How is it cleaned?

Switch it off and let it cool, then dust the concrete with a soft brush and wipe it with a dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners, which can stain concrete.

What if the size is wrong?

Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Email info@norafurnish.com with your order number first, and the team will help with the return.
