Why you'll love it

A tall column of calm light

A tall bar of light beside a door changes how a facade reads after dark. Instead of one bright point, the wall gets a calm vertical line and a soft spill of light on both sides, and the thick acrylic keeps the glow even from end to end. In daylight the black frame and notched end caps look like crisp architectural trim.

There are four heights, from a slim accent for a single door to a full height feature for a wide facade or a double entry. Choose warm white or cool white light. It is hardwired to a standard junction box and also suits covered indoor spaces.

The Nora Furnish guide

What Makes the Framed Glow Bar Wall Light, Black Stainless Steel Outdoor Sconce Such a Good Linear Wall Light

A facade at night is mostly read by its lights. A single lantern marks the door, but a tall line of light shapes the whole entrance, gives the wall rhythm and makes a modern house look as deliberate after dark as it does by day.

The Framed Glow Bar Wall Light is built for that job. A black stainless steel frame with notched end caps holds a thick acrylic diffuser along its full height, lit by an integrated LED. It comes in four heights: 19.7 inches (3.9 inches wide, 3.1 inches from the wall), 27.6 inches (3.9 wide, 4.3 deep), 41.3 inches (5.9 wide, 5.5 deep) and 51.2 inches (6.7 wide, 6.7 deep). Choose warm white 3000K or cool white 6000K. It is hardwired, 110V to 240V, and rated IP65.

What makes the glow bar stand out

The even glow is the heart of it. The thickened acrylic diffuser spreads the LED along the whole bar, so there are no bright dots or hot spots, just one smooth column of light that is comfortable to look at even right beside a door.

The frame gives it a clean outline. Black stainless steel with a high temperature varnish finish, cut with notched caps at the top and bottom, reads as crisp modern trim in daylight and almost disappears at night.

Light spills onto the wall on both sides. That soft side glow brightens the surface around the fixture and makes textured walls, stone and cladding look richer.

The four heights make it easy to scale. The output rises with size, from 10W and about 950 lumens on the shortest bar to 40W and about 3,800 lumens on the tallest, so a large facade gets the light it needs.

It works indoors too. The same bar suits a covered hallway or entry, which makes it easy to carry one look from outside to inside.

Where it looks best, around the house

  • Beside the front door. A pair of bars frames the entrance like columns.
  • Courtyards. Tall lines of light give a walled space structure.
  • Balconies. A slim bar lights the wall without taking up floor space.
  • Garage walls. Bars on each side mark the drive clearly.
  • Garden walls. Repeated along a wall, they create a steady rhythm of light.

It suits modern, minimalist and contemporary homes, and it looks especially good on smooth render, concrete and dark cladding.

Choosing the size and placement

For a standard single door, the 19.7 inch or 27.6 inch bar looks balanced. The 41.3 inch and 51.2 inch bars are made for tall doors, double entries and large facades where a short fixture would look lost.

Mount the bar vertically with the center around eye level beside the door, and keep pairs at exactly the same height.

A few guidelines help:

  • A bar roughly a quarter to a third of the door height looks balanced.
  • Use a pair on either side of the door for a formal, symmetrical entry.
  • Pick one light color for every bar on the house.
  • Plan the wiring with an electrician before the wall is finished or clad.

All required mounting hardware and instructions are included, and each bar mounts to a standard outdoor junction box.

Layering it with other lighting

A tall linear light is the architectural layer of outdoor lighting. Pair it with low path lights along the walk so the ground is lit as well, and browse the wall washer lights collection for fixtures that graze a wall from above and below.

Keep the light color consistent. Warm white suits brick, wood and planting, while cool white gives a crisp, gallery like look on modern white and gray facades.

Repeat the vertical line for a designed look. Slim post lights at the gate or tall planters beside the door carry the same proportion through the front of the house.

Looking after it is easy. Switch it off and let it cool, then wipe the frame and diffuser with a soft, dry cloth and dry the frame after rain. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners, which can scratch the acrylic.

Is the glow bar right for your space?

This light is a strong fit if you:

  • Want a tall, modern light that frames a door or a facade.
  • Prefer an even glow with no bright points.
  • Need a size for a standard door, a tall entry or a large wall.
  • Want a choice of warm white or cool white light.

It may not suit a traditional cottage that calls for a classic lantern, or a home where exterior fixtures cannot be hardwired.

Frequently asked questions

What heights are available?

Four: 19.7, 27.6, 41.3 and 51.2 inches tall. Width and depth grow with height, from 3.9 by 3.1 inches up to 6.7 by 6.7 inches.

What is it made of?

The frame is stainless steel with a high temperature black varnish finish, and the diffuser is thick acrylic.

What light colors can I choose?

Warm white 3000K or cool white 6000K. Warm white is softer, cool white is crisp and modern.

How bright is it?

Output rises with size, from 10W and about 950 lumens on the shortest bar to 40W and about 3,800 lumens on the tallest.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It is hardwired on 110V to 240V to a standard junction box, so a licensed electrician should install it.

Should I use one or two by the door?

A pair, one on each side, gives a balanced, formal entry. A single bar on the handle side works where wall space is limited.

How high should I mount it?

Keep the center of the bar around eye level beside the door, and mount a pair at the same height.

Will it suit a garage?

Yes. A bar on each side of the garage door marks the drive, and the taller sizes suit wide garage walls.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let it cool, then wipe the frame and diffuser with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the acrylic.

What if the size is wrong?

Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Email info@norafurnish.com with your order number first, and the team will help with the return.
