Why you'll love it

A clean line of light across the wall

A long bar of light along an exterior wall changes how the whole facade feels at night. The angled face turns the glow downward, so a soft band of light slides down the wall and across the patio or the path below, while the slim black body almost disappears into the architecture by day.

There are five lengths, from a bar that fits beside a single door to one that spans a wide terrace wall. Choose warm, neutral or cool white at fixed brightness, or the version with stepless dimming and a remote. It is hardwired to a junction box and mounts flat to the wall.

The Nora Furnish guide

What Makes the Wedge Linear Wall Light, Black Aluminum Outdoor Wall Sconce Such a Good Linear Wall Light

A blank exterior wall can make a patio or an entry feel unfinished after dark. A single porch bulb lights a small circle and leaves the rest in shadow, while a long, even band of light gives the whole wall shape and makes the space around it usable and calm.

The Wedge Linear Wall Light does that with a slim black aluminum bar and an acrylic diffuser set into an angled face. It comes in five lengths, 15.8, 23.6, 35.4, 47.2 and 59.1 inches, each 3.2 inches tall and 3.2 inches deep, with power from 18W to 80W. The COB LED has a CRI of 90 and a 120 degree spread, it is rated IP65, and it is hardwired at 110V to 220V. Choose Warm White 3000K, Neutral White 4500K, Cool White 6000K, or Stepless Dimming with Remote from 3000K to 6000K.

What makes the linear wall light stand out

The angled face is the clever part. The diffuser tips toward the ground, so the light washes down the wall and onto the patio or path instead of shining straight out at eye level. People walking past or sitting nearby see a glowing wall, not a bright strip.

The long format lights a wall evenly. Where a round sconce makes a bright spot with dark edges, a bar spreads its light along its whole length, so a terrace wall, a garage front or the space above a sliding door reads as one lit surface.

The color quality is high. A CRI of 90 means wood, plants, brick and skin tones look natural under it, which matters on a patio where people eat, talk and spend the evening.

The light choices cover most homes. Warm White suits brick, timber and planting, Neutral White looks clean on pale render, and Cool White keeps a crisp, contemporary look. The Stepless Dimming with Remote version slides from warm to cool and dims for a quiet evening.

In daylight the bar is almost invisible. The black aluminum body is only 3.2 inches deep, so it reads as a clean architectural line on a modern facade rather than a fixture.

Where it looks best, around the house

  • Covered patios. A long bar above the seating washes the wall with calm, even light.
  • Above sliding doors. The bar spans the opening and lights the threshold without glare.
  • Garage fronts. A long length across the garage wall lights the drive and the door.
  • Terrace and balcony walls. A soft band of light makes an outdoor room feel finished.
  • Side passages. A shorter length lights a narrow walkway evenly from end to end.

It suits modern, minimalist and contemporary homes, flat roofed houses and any facade with clean lines, and it also works as a quiet background light on a more traditional house where the fixture should not draw attention.

Choosing the size and placement

The five lengths are 15.8, 23.6, 35.4, 47.2 and 59.1 inches, all 3.2 inches tall and 3.2 inches from the wall. Power rises with length, from 18W on the shortest to 80W on the longest, as listed in the Additional Details section. Measure the wall or the opening before choosing.

A few guidelines help:

  • Match the length to what sits below it: about the width of a single door for the shorter bars, most of the opening for a sliding door or a garage.
  • Mount it above head height, so the angled face looks down on the space.
  • Use two shorter bars either side of a door, or one long bar centered above it.
  • Plan the wiring and the junction box position with an electrician before the wall is finished.

All required mounting hardware and instructions are included, and the light fixes to a standard outdoor junction box.

Layering it with other lighting

A linear bar is the wash layer of outdoor lighting: it lights the wall itself and gives the space a soft background glow. Add light at ground level and the space gains depth. Browse the path lights collection for the walkway, or the wall washer lights collection for other ways to light a facade.

Keep the light color consistent across the front or the back of the house. When the bar, the path lights and any string lights on the patio share one color temperature, the whole space reads as one calm scene.

Use the remote version where the mood changes through the evening. Bright and neutral for dinner outside, then dimmed and warm once the table is cleared.

Looking after the bar is simple. Switch it off and let it cool, then wipe the aluminum and the acrylic diffuser with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can scratch the diffuser, and dry the metal fully.

Is the linear wall light right for your space?

This light is a strong fit if you:

  • Want a long, even wash of light along an exterior wall.
  • Like a slim, modern fixture that disappears by day.
  • Want warm, neutral or cool white, or remote dimming.
  • Can have a hardwired light installed.

It may not suit a traditional cottage entrance that calls for a classic lantern, or a wall where no wiring can be run.

Frequently asked questions

What lengths are available?

Five lengths: 15.8, 23.6, 35.4, 47.2 and 59.1 inches, all 3.2 inches tall and 3.2 inches from the wall. The measurements for each are listed in the Dimensions section.

What is it made of?

The body is aluminum with an acrylic diffuser. Slight variation in color and finish between units is normal, and all required mounting hardware and instructions are included.

What light colors are there?

Warm White 3000K, Neutral White 4500K and Cool White 6000K at fixed brightness, or Stepless Dimming with Remote, which moves between 3000K and 6000K and dims.

Which way does the light go?

The diffuser sits on an angled face that points down, so light washes down the wall and onto the ground below rather than straight out at eye level.

Is it hardwired?

Yes, at 110V to 220V. An electrician should connect it to a standard outdoor junction box with the power off at the breaker.

Can it go on an exposed wall?

Yes. It is rated IP65 against rain and dust, so it suits open walls as well as covered patios.

How bright is it?

The COB LED gives 90 lumens per watt, from 18W on the shortest length up to 80W on the longest, and the listing gives a lighting area of about 54 to 171 square feet.

Will it work above a garage door?

Yes. One of the longer lengths across a garage wall lights both the door and the drive in front of it.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let it cool, then wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Treat the acrylic diffuser gently and avoid abrasive cleaners.

What if the size is wrong?

Unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Email info@norafurnish.com with your order number first, and the team will help with the return.
